The SR22, by Cirrus Design, is a single-engine, four-seat, composite aircraft. It is a more powerful version of the Cirrus SR20, with a larger wing, higher fuel capacity, and a 310 horsepower normally aspirated Continental IO-550N engine. It has been the world's best-selling single-engine, four-seat aircraft since being produced. The SR22 has fixed (non-retractable) landing gear and is faster than most retractable aircraft to include most small twin engine aircraft.
Cirrus aircraft are perhaps best known for being equipped with the Cirrus Aircraft Parachute System (CAPS). In the event of an emergency, the entire aircraft is attached to a parachute that is capable of lowering the entire aircraft (and occupants) to the ground in an emergency. Cirrus is the only FAA certified manufacture providing this type of system on a certified aircraft.
