Today I got checked out in a 2008 Cirrus SR20 w/ Perspective
at Rainier Flight at the Renton Airport (KRNT).
It was great to be back in the saddle of a Cirrus again and I felt like
I had never left. This aircraft is
different from what I’m used to in that it is an SR20, so it only has a 200hr
engine vs the 310hr Continental IO-550 the SR22 has. It also is a G3, or Generation 3 Cirrus where
as mine was a G2. It honestly flew the
same, but I did notice that it didn’t have the bungee connection to the rudder
that the first two generations had. Flight wise though, it was great and had a
much better feeling than the older G1 SR20s I have flown in the past. This was actually a little more nimble and
easier to fly, probably because of the G3 wing.
The biggest difference between the planes was the
avionics. Although I do have some time
in Perspective, most of my Cirrus time was in Avidyne avionics and this Garmin
Perspective is amazing. It’s a much more
capable platform to use, but not nearly as intuitive as the Avidyne Entegra
system. It will take some getting used
to, but I really like it.
At $235/hr wet, I don’t plan on flying it tons, but at least
I can keep my Cirrus currency up and take my family on short trips with this
plane. I am really looking forward to
flying in it some more!
**NOTE: These photos are off the internet, since I forgot to take any when I was with the plane.
